Bella Winery specialises in sparkling wine, the only winery in British Columbia to do so. This family owned winery produces more than 15 different sparkling wine variations, made with the traditional and ancestrale methods.
For many years, Bella made wine from Chardonnay and Gamay grapes only. As Gamay has become more popular (and harder to source), the family has branched out to experimenting with other grapes.
The owners takes pride in creating sparkling wines in a sustainable way so don’t be surprised to spot chickens roaming the vines while you enjoy your delicious bubbly!
The winery, by the way, was named after the winemaker’s bulldog. Bella has since passed, but Buddha, another bulldog, continues to roam the property.

Tastings and Wine Shop
Bella Winery runs tours of the farm homestead on weekends, from 11am to 3pm. The tour includes a short walk around the property, with four different sparkling wines to taste along the way. The experience is intimate, conducted by winemaker and owner Jay, with no more than 10 people on the tour.
Besides the chance to chat with the winemaker, the tour offers insight into the winery’s philosophy of vineyard utilization to create a better and more sustainable way of farming. Tours last around 30-40 minutes. The fee is $15 per person and is non-refundable (even with purchase of wine).
Please note that the tours are held outside. Bella does provide umbrellas, for both shade and rain. The terrain is easy to walk though can be a little dusty in places. There is one section of the tour which passes a number of bee hives, so keep in this mind if anyone in your group has allergies. There are also roaming chickens, ducks and geese on the property.
On Friday afternoons, there is also the opportunity to ‘sit with Wendy.’ See details below. Alternatively, the wine shop is also open Friday to Monday from 11am to 4pm for wine purchases only (no tastings).
Bella may not have an on-site restaurant, but does host one of the most unique wine tasting and snacking experiences on the Naramata Bench! On Fridays during the summer season, it is possible to sit down with Wendy (one of Bella’s founders) and enjoy a tasting of four sparkling wines alongside an individual snacking board. The fee is $30 and is non-refundable.

This winery welcomes children. Keep in mind that the tasting is aimed at adults and also held on a working farm, with roaming chickens, geese and ducks as well as pigs and honey bees. Buddha, the winery’s bulldog, is not kept on a leash. These local wineries have toys and games for children:
Bella is a working farm with farm animals and a resident dog. This winery allows dogs to visit with owners but you must keep in mind that they do have livestock roaming around the vineyard and it would not be well suited for reactive or over excitable dogs.
Bella Winery’s sparkling wines generally sell out quickly each year. In 2021, however, they have started to experiment with phased releases, so more wines are available throughout the summer. The best way to secure some of their wines is to join one of Bella’s wine clubs.
